Is that me and how can I deal with it?
What is hypersensitivity?
Everyone has their own comfort zone. In this zone, the impressions and sensory stimuli around us are conducive to our sense of well-being. Too little stimuli leads to boredom and an excess of stimuli leads to excessive demands. This comfort zone varies from person to person and is also dependent on the form of the day.

We all have the same sensory organs, but each brain processes stimuli differently. Some people filter less, so they notice more and are more quickly overwhelmed. The same applies to the perception of the inner world, which some people feel better than others. More sensitive people are referred to as highly sensitive, and this affects around 15-20% of all people, men and women alike. Hypersensitivity is not a new phenomenon, but an integral part of our evolutionary history and is also found in the animal kingdom: More sensitive people and animals were probably not the best or strongest fighters, but they were the ones who were able to warn others of danger in good time.
Curse or blessing?
Due to their detailed perception, highly sensitive people can be more sensitive than others to light, smells, sounds, taste and touch, which can be disturbing in everyday life, but can be advantageous for certain professions. They are often very empathic, which allows them to perceive and understand others better, but they also pick up on their moods more easily. Due to their heightened sensitivity, they often experience things more consciously, are very reflective and therefore able to think in complex contexts, but sometimes also question themselves and others, and need longer to think and weigh things up before they can make a decision. In return, they are conscientious, responsible and loyal. The deeper and more thorough processing leads to exhaustion and overstimulation more quickly, which explains the need for regular and longer periods of retreat and relaxation.
A spiritual gift?
Highly sensitive people are more receptive to the subtle vibrations of the spiritual world and are therefore in many cases predestined for energetic-spiritual work. Those who feel called to do so and take appropriate courses and training will not only use their gift, but also learn to control it to a certain extent, which will also help them to cope better in everyday life.
Making life easier
It is particularly important for highly sensitive people to organize their lives in such a way that they see meaning in their activities, can live their abilities positively and do not suffer as a result. The key is to learn to clearly define your energy and to be able to say “no”, as well as to regularly cleanse your own system, which can significantly increase resilience and stress resistance. The prerequisite for this is good body awareness in order to be able to clearly distinguish between what comes from yourself and what has been taken over.
